Rules Question  (United States)

In the last tournament I gave myself a 1 stroke penalty during 2 instances where I addressed my ball and as I adjusted my feet, accidentally tapped the ball with the club.  The ball moved a little bit but then came back to rest at it's original location on both occassions.  I went over the ROG and found references to accidentally hitting your ball during a practice swing and references to the ball moving after address.  Both incur a one stroke penalty but in my case, I was not taking a practice swing and after the ball was accidentally tapped during the beginning processes of addressing, the ball returned to it's original position.  Can someone comment on this?  Thanks.

Re: Rules Question  (United States)

In doing some research on the web my conclusion would be there should NOT be any strokes incurred.

USGA Rule: 18-2

18/2  Ball Oscillates During Address

Q. In addressing the ball, a player accidentally causes the ball to oscillate, but it returns to its original position. Has the ball “moved”?

A. No.

Hope it helps.
